The Queen Club Mitropa Chess Academy will host a FIDE Conference on the role of women in our sport, scheduled in Conegliano on August 31st, 2025, at 3:00 pm, in the beautiful location of Campus San Francesco.
The conference will feature four extraordinary women who gave a paramount contribution both to the national and international Chess community:
Aleksandra Dimitrijević: WGM, former jugoslav and youth european rapid champion, is the Mitropa Chess Academy Director. Professional player ever since, now is mainly active in training and education. she has been the captain of two Olympic National teams in four Olympiads, and likewise first board of the Bosnian National team. She is also International Arbiter.
Franca Dapiran: first and for a long time only A’ category International Arbiter for the Italian Chess Federation, her career culminated in being Deputy Chief Arbiter in the 2006 Olympiad in Turin, still the highest position ever covered by an Italian Arbiter. Sports Officer, she has been incumbent as Italian Ratings Officer for more than twenty years as well as a member of the National Arbiters’ Commission and Councillor in the FIDE Rules Commission.
Anastasia Sorokina: WIM and International Organiser, former FIDE Vice President, currently Commission for Women in Chess chairperson, and former President of the Belarus’ Chess Federation before being obliged to leaver her country due to the political persecution, she is not only a Sports Officer at any levels but also an appreciated A’ category International Arbiter.
Veronika Goi: former italian women’s champion (1997) and U20 champion (2000) she played in the Italian Olympic team during two Olympiads (1998 and 2006). She is the real engine of the Capablanca Chess Club in Mestre and, after her competitive career she started the one as a Sports Officer being elected in the Veneto Chess League first, and then in the board of the Italian Chess Federation. Since 2023, she is the Vice President of the Italian Chess Federation.
The conference will be moderated by Deborah Pavei, currently a boardmember of the Veneto Chess League and 2008 italian G14 champion.
The conference is one of the two european initiatives of the programme Women Chess Marathon, one of the topics of the FIDE “2025 Social Chess Year”. The italian leg features also a couple-tournaments to be held on August 30th, in cooperation with the Veneto Chess League.
